Wow, I’m now FULLY convinced that I wouldn’t have gotten the full benefit of the program had I not reset, starting today.

I woke up and drove for Lyft again in the morning! Yay, motivation! Working in the morning allows me to feel better about not working in the afternoon, and enables higher levels of productivity, and then– earned downtime, wherein I don’t guilt myself out of enjoying said leisure.

On the road, I had two cups of coffee, a banana, and some hazelnuts.

When I returned, I made myself the same ‘ol breakfast, all Whole30 compliant.

Two fried eggs with grilled onions, some bacon, and some blueberries (ooh, la la). Unfortunately, I again used some of that DISGUSTING homemade mayo that I botched. Tomorrow, I’m back on set for 9-1-1 (YES), but I’ll make a better batch tomorrow.

Yes, the mayo is yellow. I tried to salvage it with mustard and hot sauce. No Bueno.

After breakfast, I went to the gym, and with all of the rain, a heavy leak had sprung just under the air conditioner. We had a pail under our kitchen sink that I could use to stave off damage to the carpet (and to prevent mildew). I grabbed my apartment key, ran into our place next door, and as I closed the gym door behind me, I had realized I forgotten the gym key… inside the gym.

I stood outside the gym door, watching a steady stream of water saturate the carpet under the AC as I hoped someone would stroll on by with a key. Finally, after ten minutes, a couple of gracious ladies popped it open for me. By then, the leak had slowed to a trickle, but I still sat the pail in its proper place.

I finished my workout and headed inside to take a shower and walked to Groundwork Coffee to write another chapter. This was one of the very few days I wish I owned a pair of rain boots. By the time I reached Groundwork, my shoes were SOAKED. Nevertheless, I sat down and wrote a chapter with a cup of Americano.

When I was done, I walked out to clearing skies and saw this absolute beauty.

For lunch, I had… two fried eggs and a cucumber.

Later in the day, my roommate, Alex invited me to finally watch Downsizing at the AMC 8 in the Town Center in Burbank. That film had some ingenious production design and brilliant world-building off of an enticing premise, but the film took a few too many jarring turns that, and the characters aren’t likable.

But first, Alex and I ate out. This was immensely tricky. Today was so different because I deeply craved all of the old shit I used to eat. I wanted to order the fattest burrito LOADED with beans, cheese, and all of the fixings.

Instead, I made a Carnitas bowl (plain pulled pork), with lettuce, jalapeños, onions, avocado, fresh salsa, and lots of Whole30 compliant hot sauce. I was incredibly impressed with my ability to navigate the menu and ask questions to find something that I could actually eat. Whew, crisis averted.

After the film, I bought some ingredients (like light olive oil, NEVER USE Extra virgin olive oil) for my new batch of homemade mayonnaise.

So that’s the day! I’m watching the original Child’s Play now (Alex has never seen it), and I will see you tomorrow after my second day on set, circumventing the nasty habitual foods. Wish me luck!

Jamie writes about himself a lot. Yeah, he knows that can be irritating, but he hopes that people can learn from his mistakes, like when he had cancer and waited too long to chase his dream. Learn more about his battle with Leukemia (AML) in his on-going first draft of his book here.
