Life is like a dirty hardwood floor. At first glance it appears clean, or at least “good enough.” But then you notice a speck or a smudge, so you get on your hands and knees and examine more closely at the corners to reveal the sea of junk that has accumulated.
Then when you actually get down and dirty to clean it, you see just how dirty it really was.
I guess the only difference is that while you get immediate satisfaction with a pile of dirt, in life you don’t truly understand how much you’ve changed it until much later in retrospect.
But a dirty floor always needs to be cleaned eventually. When’s the last time you’ve cleaned your own?
