What the Hell Are We Doing?

When in the hell did we become so stupid? Us, the human species.

Firstly, am I one of the only kids ever who was actually impacted by the environmental plight of Captain Planet? I see more people throwing recyclables away even when there is a FREE option to recycle. I have a cover on my garbage can at home. To throw something away, you have to swing the top cover in to get the item through. My zero-sort recycling bin is LITERALLY right next to it, wide open. My roommate has to exert more force with the extra step, than just throwing said item into the bin.

Is it really that difficult to just recycle? If everyone in the world with the ability to recycle did so, it would have a remarkable, immense difference on the environment.

Another thing– In the past thirty or so years, we’ve run away from our intelligence and closed off facts to appease our small-minded belief systems. We deny what we hear as truth because it scares us. Instead of facing reality head-on, we dismiss it.

There was a great article written recently on The New Yorker. At first I thought it was an Onion-type article because it sounded so ludicrous (and I was right), but it mentions that the Earth is Endangered by a New Strain of Fact-Resistant Humans.

Sure it’s firmly tongue-in-cheek, but it’s true, and Goddamn scary. I wasn’t one to quickly believe that the mass media molds viewers, but shit man, it’s starting to look like it! Shows like the Real Housewives of (Insert Embarrassed City), or Keeping Up With the Kardashians, and the like ruin human thought processes. Meanwhile, NASA and the Dept. of Education severely lack funding and millions of people around the world starve.

I don’t know where to go from here. Both in life and in this blog entry. It’s frustrating. Will we pull through, or doom ourselves?

I’m sure in no way this will come back and bite me in the ass. Naw… Follow me on Twitter @GuyOnAWire
