August– Biopics (Starts at 00:00)

John– Who deserves a Biopic? (14:26)

Jamie– Guilty Pleasure Films (37:06)

My #DLMChallenge Top 20

Parring down this massive list of 368 movies into my favorite list of just ten is a scary thought. So I determined that I would have to do at least a Top 20.

Naturally, I’ve removed the ability for the #ReWatch365 movies to make this list. This is truly my favorite of the new movies I’ve seen this year.

I will make a separate Top 10 for the movies released in 2015, and those will be based on the quality and my personal tastes (coming soon).

In an attempt to differentiate from the 2015 Best Of list, this list will feature the movies that really spoke to me, ones that gave me a feeling that permeated quality, and filled me with personal substance. Yeah, intense.

But first, here are some Honorable Mentions from the #DLMChallenge 2015 (The ones in bold nearly made the list):Read More »

My Love of Mixtapes

Growing up I used to adore the radio because it would provide me otherwise unattainable access to each song that I loved. I’d painfully wait until it played again just so I could relive the magic of that inner joy when the chorus would hit its crescendo before it would all taken away after the three-four minute song would end. Then, I would have to wait to hear it again for what could be an hour, but felt like a day.

Cassettes

That is, until I was introduced to the wonders of the cassette tape. With my new tool firmly in hand, I would sit by the radio with a more cautioned ear, patiently waiting for the song of the month, (the one I couldn’t stop singing), to play. As soon as I heard the first few notes, I clicked the red dot on my cassette player and it was recording. This was my first taste in the art of mixtapes.Read More »

My Favorite Music of All Time (Current)

To garner awareness for the music that I love (with what little platform I have through this blog), I’ve decided to share my favorite bands and musicians of all time (the current list).

That bit at the end there is both a joke and true. Our musical tastes evolve over time, akin to our physical receptors like tastebuds.

Now a few things to note:

1. I’ve included links to iTunes for each band, but do your best to buy these records as LPs or CDs. They’ll sound so much better.

2. The bands or their notable songs are mostly in order.

3. You are guaranteed NOT to agree with all of these.

So without further ado, here are my favorite bands of all time.

“The Grey Year and LCD Soundsystem” -The Writer’s Mind

It’s 10:38 PM on Thursday, August 20th, 2015: My day off.

I just got back from the gym at work. I listened to LCD Soundsystem’s “Home” there and back. I wore a gray shirt, grey undershirt, my gray Nike sneakers, and grey shorts. Four shades of grey for what seems to be a metaphor in a movie scene. This moment in my life, this past year has been a grey area. I’m in stasis; in the middle of something scary, and something big.
