72- Nostalgia Be Damned

The two guests on today’s show are from the titular podcast, Nostalgia Be Damned! Brandon (former guest and co-host of We Need Movies with Jamie) and Zach Warren graciously let Jamie crash their podcast and record a special segment during Jamie’s surprise visit to the East Coast.

The guys simply discuss the lone topic: What is nostalgia? Where does it come from? And why do we feel it? A fitting topic considering Jamie’s run of #52PickUp from this very show.

13- “Hard to Be a Good Movie”

We run the gamut on what it means to be a good movie with three very different picks this week!

First Jamie speaks of his re-watch of the 1996 blockbuster, Independence Day (Starts at 00:00).

Then John brings to light his creepy experience while watching The Conjuring 2 (23:37).

And finally, August berates us for over half an hour about the magic of this week’s communal film, the Russian epic, Hard to Be a God. And… we begin to get it. (35:52)

Naturally SPOILERS for each film ahead!

Each odd-numbered episode we talk specific films, and each even-numbered episode we discuss topics regarding Hollywood and the things we’re passionate about (either way).

Listen here.

“Independence Day: Resurgence” Hits All of My Interests

Screen Shot 2015-12-14 at 12.30.56 PM

****UPDATE 4/22/16– TRAILER #2****

Growing up I had been an immense fan of the movie Independence Day. The scale of the attack, the large talented cast, and the seamless blending of both types of special effects: CGI and Practical– All of this was what made this film so special (and lucrative), and what launched Roland Emmerich‘s career of blockbuster disaster movies. Whether that’s a good thing or not… I’ll let you decide.

So when I sat down to finally watch the trailer for the oft-delayed sequel Independence Day: Resurgence, I was taken back to my childhood. What I didn’t expect however, was the lore that they’ve constructed around the first movie.Read More »
