I Pranked a “Give Out Money” Scammer (from DHHS)!

FINAL UPDATE BELOW! 1/14

**UPDATED 12/10 with NEW Conversation below!

Scammers are everywhere and they try dozens of methods to swindle people out of their hard-earned money. The problem with these scammers is that they use the likenesses of the people you know and love. For example, here’s my ex-wife’s Mother’s name being used in an attempt to scam me. At first, I was so busy at work, that I assumed she forgot her old password and created a new Facebook profile. In the fervor of my job, I ignored my instinct and responded to this bait. Then, I began to enjoy the prospect of messing with the scammer.

*Note: I truly apologize for all of the typos on my end; they almost prevented me from posting this conversation, but the following was too much fun to keep to myself:

Fighting to Maintain Your Goals

Boy, it’s been a while, hasn’t it?

In fact, I hadn’t realized it had been five weeks since my last post until I sat down to write this cry for creative sanity. I’m not even certain how this post will do considering Facebook recently ruined the ability to hotlink automatically from WordPress.

Sure, I’ve been chipping away at the My Cancer Story rewrite when I’m able (the now vacant tentpole of this blog for two years), and I’ve been recording notes and elements for other projects (as I’m wont to do), but this past month has been one of the busiest ever let alone since I’ve moved to Los Angeles. I’m living my dream, but if I’m not too careful, I’ll tumble backward into someone else’s.

Let me explain.Read More »

No, I was going to prove my life goal duality– love and a career. I didn’t survive Leukemia to settle, and I sure as shit wasn’t going to give up on either one of my passions.

I applied for school again, and The New England School of Communications graciously accepted my reinstatement. I knew the next two to four years would be tough, but I was planning on getting my and Travis’ cartoon show up and running.

What a ball I was having! I was perfectly happy without a relationship & I was going to the gym more, eating healthy, and living a normal social life. But it just goes to show that when you least expect it, love comes rushing back into your life.

Deirdre and I had been talking a lot more at work, and during our many collective gatherings with our co-workers; we flirted more often than not. Call me completely oblivious, but yeah; I didn’t know that Deirdre was into me when we first reconnected at work in 2007 OR that night we danced the night away and I chose Veronica.

Depression Supression

I wrote a post yesterday about working through a depression regarding my financial & creative funks. The response was overwhelming, to say the least– well, on Facebook; I can’t for the life of me figure out how to get people to comment directly through WordPress. I wrote a post about the nurses’ strike one time that elicited several comments, but that’s about it.

The reason for the follow-up is that I wanted to demonstrate the effect that these responses can have on an individual experiencing such a low. We all scroll through Facebook and ‘Like’ or ‘Haha’ or ‘Sad’ or ‘Wow!’ a post about kittens and Trump, but we rarely talk to each other and never ask how anyone else is doing.

Sleeping on a Purple Mattress (A Review)

*Before you ask, no, the mattress isn’t purple in color.*

*Also, I have NOT been endorsed by the Purple Mattress Company in any way, this is an impartial review (but I would totally take them up on it).*

I haven’t slept on a real mattress since I moved out West to Los Angeles in early November. For the first few months, I slept on a futon that my temporary roommate had in her apartment.

Now, don’t get me wrong, it was a comfy-ass futon, so that was NOT a problem. But when I ventured out into an actual rental with my new roommate, I spent the past month on the floor with only a custom-knit throw blanket my grandmother made me, and a brand new pillow from Target. I didn’t know when I’d ever get a bed.Read More »

The Digital Black Hole

It’s funny to watch yourself during a moment of absolute freedom; when I have a full day to write and be productive, and every time I research a word for a better synonym, or open my browser, instinctively (and immediately), I fall into a clickhole. I open Facebook, or YouTube, ever distancing myself from my main objective. It’s even worse when I actually need to examine one simple post from our content channels on Facebook, and rather than accomplishing that objective, I like post after post, scrolling down the infinite wall of personal expression.
