Sunday, Bloody Sunday. I reveled in this day of creation, and in this particular installment, also a rare spot of play. But food was yet again a part of the day, and therein lies was one of my most difficult tests yet.

I awoke a tad earlier and made my breakfast. If you guessed eggs, then you’d be correct.

I went back to Groundworks for the second weekend Americano, and before I left, hazelnuts and a banana entered my system.

My goal was to complete a chapter before I went over to my friend Kevin’s house for a game night. It was my first official game night since I moved out West. I yearned for a night like this again since my days with Jon, Abby, Kyle, Evan, and Tyler in Maine. The problem with this night of pleasantries was that I knew Kevin was a fucking bomb chef and everything he touches tastes delightful.

…Oh, don’t even think that!

I already did it for you. 😉

Since I was prepared to have my dietary strengths tested, I ate at home first and bought a veggie tray and some pistachios to graze upon.

It’s never pretty, but it’s delicious.

The night of card games, hand-drawn group games, and virtual party games was a rousing success. We started with Cards Against Humanity, then went onto a game called Celebrities, This game consists starts with the party splitting into two teams, then every player writes five famous people, real or fictional, onto its own pieces of paper and places them in a communal bowl. Then, each teammate attempts to have the other members guess the name. Each person has a minute to get as many as possible, and it can get wild.

So, yes, it’s similar to what you’re thinking: Heads Up, but with elements of charades. It’s an escalating delight during three progressively challenging rounds, and changes drastically depending on who you’re playing with. When someone jots down “Gus from Psych” or three people individually write “Bill Cosby” it can really alter the dynamic.

And finally, an assortment of various JackBox Party Pack games, most notably, Fakin’ It.

I’m beginning to allow myself to have some fun again. It’s easy to do when I’m not desperate to get enough rides to make the week’s bills.

Tomorrow, I continue that tradition, and work another wonderful day on 9-1-1!

Jamie writes about himself a lot. Yeah, he knows that can be irritating, but he hopes that people can learn from his mistakes, like when he had cancer and waited too long to chase his dream. Learn more about his battle with Leukemia (AML) in his on-going first draft of his book here.
