My (New) Day Four found me sleeping in again but making up for it spectacularly as well. Why’s that you ask? Oh, it’s just another SET DAY on 9-1-1!

I woke up at 11 AM. I really meant to stay up after moving my car for my roommate, but when I went to catch up on my apps, I fell back asleep. I have this innate ability to head back into slumber within seconds. No joke.

Upon waking, I had my breakfast that I’m sure you are all tired of seeing (I’m still not): two fried eggs, grilled onions & jalapeños, blueberries, hazelnuts, raisins, and Tim’s Horton’s coffee.

I think I’ll just let you know when it’s finally different…

Also, here’s a bonus friendly PSA on how to tell if your eggs are good to eat! Learning new things in life is a change that we should all get behind.

When I arrived at basecamp* I got my paperwork and walkie in order and got a hamburger patty w grilled onions, jalapeños, hot sauce, and mustard with a side of watermelon.

Later in the day, while locking up near crafty, I got two boiled eggs.

Then, a stand-in (who used to be a barista), made me an almond milk cinnamon latte. She loves making drinks for the workers as she feels more useful. We all certainly appreciate her handiwork.

We next moved to our second location of the day, and after lighting, we went to our basecamp for some catered lunch.

I had a similar lunch compared to the previous Set day: chicken breast, garlic zucchini, broccoli, boiled potatoes, and watermelon.

After lunch, I was able to dip my toes into background actors directing! To many, this is nothing new, but to me, it was a revolutionary moment. I was learning to place the background extras so that the scene we were shooting in the firehouse looked natural. What an amazing feeling.

The only other thing I ate on set was a bowl of celery sticks and cucumbers. The second snack of the day was pizza, and it was another tempting meal. I thought about it for a second, but only because the old mental link to that craving was there. Once I refocused on work, the thought passed, and I didn’t care if I ate any or not. Yay, willpower!

I had one more coffee (black), and after we wrapped at 1:02 AM, we cleared the set, gathered all of the paperwork, and went back to base to sign out the background.

After we all got out an hour later, I decided to drive a few rides for Lyft. During this, I had a cup of coffee and an apple. I was wired until I drove these two rides and so, I threw destination mode towards home.

So there you have it! Another day in paradise! Everybody, keep your heads up and make your life the best it can be!

*Basecamp is where the crew’s trailers (mostly make-up, hair, costumes, changing rooms, catering, and the AD trailers) live. It is almost always where crew parking is as well.

Jamie writes about himself a lot. Yeah, he knows that can be irritating, but he hopes that people can learn from his mistakes, like when he had cancer and waited too long to chase his dream. Learn more about his battle with Leukemia (AML) in his on-going first draft of his book here.
